ALUN Rossiter lauded an all-round good team effort as the Swindon Robins continued their impressive home form with a 50-40 success over Leicester Lions this evening.

Swindon have now won their last five Elite League matches at the Abbey Stadium, although they remain sixth in the table despite this result.

The Robins had to make do without number one Peter Kildemand, with team boss Rossiter learning of his unavailability through injury on the morning of the meet.

Swindon opted to utilise rider replacements in his absence but it did not hold them back as Polish recruit Grzegorz Zengota led the charge with 12 points from six rides.

Skipper Troy Batchelor looked near to his best again after a dip in form following injury, collecting 11 points.

That figure was matched by Nick Morris, while reserve Charles Wright chipped in with a valuable haul of nine.

Team boss Rossiter was delighted with the display as the Robins returned to the track for the first time since the narrow defeat at Belle Vue on Monday, May 11.

“We’ve had about a 10-day break and a few of the riders haven’t ridden very much,” said Rossiter.

“Zengi is back and it’s great to see. Everybody did their bit really.

“To be fair to Troy it wasn’t his best engine. His engine was meant to turn up at the house and it never turned up from Poland.

“He never felt comfortable on the bike. He wasn’t happy and the trouble with Troy is if he doesn’t feel right it’s not the best start for him.

“Nick can beat anybody. It’s as simple as that, he’s that good around here. He’s just showing what a class rider he’s becoming.”

It was an under-par night for Kyle Howarth, however, as he could not translate the form that saw him book a place at the British Championship Final at King’s Lynn on Wednesday at the Abbey.

He collected six points from four rides, although Rossiter thinks he is not far away from his best.

It was also a difficult evening for reserve Lewis Rose, who was missing his best engine and his night was summed up by a fall in his last race.

Rossiter said: “Lewis was struggling, we got his clutch sorted out in the end and he made starts but his best engine is being repaired at the moment. Hopefully that will be back for Tuesday against Coventry.

“Kyle is just riding a bit tense and just needs to loosen up a bit. Hopefully we will get him back on form and we’ll be away.

“I think people just need to have a little bit more belief in the team. We showed what we can do.”
