SWINDON’S David Howell will be looking to put last week’s disappointing showing at the PGA Championship behind him as he looks to continue his good form this season at the Irish Open.

After back-to-back second place finishes leading into last week’s tournament - the flagship event on the European Tour - Howell was expecting a good performance at Wentworth.

However, the Broome Manor pro fell short of his high expectations as he failed to make the cut with a score of three over par.

Howell will tee off at Royal County Down Golf Club in Newcastle, Northern Ireland, at 1.40pm alongside Peter Hanson and Nicolas Colsaerts but has said his confidence has not been dented by last week’s result.

“Normally I would have played the US Open qualifying on the Monday just gone but I withdrew from that last week,” said 39-year-old Howell, who has looked relaxed in tweets with his family during the build up to the event.

“So I have had four or five days rest and the family have come with me to Ireland, which is nice.

“It’s another big week in Ireland with Rory (McIlroy) playing and a host of other stars.

“There are two more weeks in this run for me and I am in good form and I feel like things might go my way a little bit more this week.

“I am still feeling great about things and I will take Wentworth on the chin and move on.”
