THE newly-formed Chippenham Tri Club is already making great strides with the club celebrating excellent results for both juniors and seniors during June.

Four of the club’s young athletes travelled to Tockington Manor School to compete against around 200 others at the North Bristol Children’s Triathlon, where children from the age of eight and above took part in cycling, swimming and running races of varying distances.

In the TriStars 1 category, which comprised of a 100m swim, 1.6km cycle and 0.8km run, eight year old Harry Maxwell finished seventh, just two places ahead of twin brother Joshua. Mitchel Mason (nine) was 15th.

Molly Dunstone, 10, finished the older Tristars 2 category in 13th over distances of 200m, 3.2km, and 1.6km.

Adult member Chris Maxwell excelled at the Deva Triathlon - an Olympic distance triathlon held in Chester.

The event incorporated the Triathlon England Championships and Maxwell recorded a personal best time of two hours four minutes for the Olympic distance 1.5km swim, 40km bike, and 10km run.

That left him seventh in the 40-44 age group in the English Championships, for the World Triathlon Championships in Chicago in September, as well as the 2016 European Championships in Lisbon.

Richard Schofield completed the Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire, winning the 50-54 age group to qualify for the World Championships in Austria in August.
