TOWN boss Mark Cooper was not too concerned with the result as his side lost their first pre-season friendly 2-1 at Swindon Supermarine.

Set-piece goals from Luke Hopper and Sam Morris were sandwiched by a Michael Smith strike in a chilly evening at the Webb’s Wood.

Cooper was more concerned his side’s physical condition and was pleased to see the 22 players he used come through unscathed.

"It's just a case of fitness for us and getting through without any injuries," reflected Cooper to the local media.

"We've not done any tactical work as yet, it's just been trying to get ready for August 8.”

Swindon Town chose to leave their trialists unnamed and declined to release a teamsheet ahead of kick-off.

However many of the names had been reported. Jamie Sendles-White, Daniel Lincoln, Drissa Traore, Bradley Barry and Sanchez Commock all started.

Cooper would not be drawn on their performances, only saying the game served as one part of their assessment process and that recruitment was ongoing.

"We're not bothered about trying to merge (the triallists) as a team, it's about trying to find one or two that we think can help us during the season,” Cooper added.

"Everybody knows we've lost some of our key players and we need to replace them.

“If the right players become available and we’ve got the funds I’m sure the chairman will make it happen.

“As long as they’re the right kind of player and they’ve got the right attributes then we’ll try and get them.”

The Swindon Advertiser was not permitted to attend Cooper's post-match press duties.
