CHARLIE Griffin admits the mood is good in the Griffin household with both him and brother Alan gunning for the play offs.

The former Chippenham Town striker is involved in his own promotion bid with Newport County as they lie just one point off the Conference South play offs with three games in hand.

Younger brother Alan is also looking for his own success as the Bluebirds look to sneak into the Southern League Premier Division play offs.

Adie Mings' men entertain relegation threatened Cheshunt as County travel to Sutton United tomorrow.

"The atmosphere is pretty calm, would have been better if they had beaten King's Lynn and we speak regularly about it," said Charlie.

"We have a bit of banter and it is good we both still have something to play for."

County are playing three games a week to cover postponements earlier in the season and the 27-year-old has eight goals in his last 13 games.

Griffin said: "We are favourites but taking nothing for granted. We have four games left and Chippenham have two so both sides have a lot to play for.

"Hopefully we can both win on Saturday which will certainly make things easier."

Griffin, a former strike partner of boss Mings, believes the Bluebirds board have the right man for the job after agreeing a 12-month contract last week.

He said: "Adie has known the club for many years, he has played for them and played against the club. He knows his stuff.

"He brings everything, he has a lot about him. He likes a joke and a laugh but he is serious about his job and he will want to do well."

The former Swindon Town hitman is also backing his brother, and Chippenham, to sneak into the play offs on the last day of the season at Hemel Hempstead next Saturday.

"The run has been fantastic and to get back into the picture is a great achievement," said Griffin.

"They will be favourites to beat Cheshunt and use it as a springboard for the Hemel Hempstead game.

"It is all about Saturday, they need to win that to get the crowd behind them. They can then go to Hemel for winner takes all."

Griffin junior is a doubt for tomorrow's game with Cheshunt after picking up a shin injury in training.

Despite taking part in the two hour session last night, fellow striker Sean Seavill will not feature as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.
