WHEN you’re playing, you obviously don’t know about what records have been broken or anything like that but I was really happy with what I did in the One-Day Cup against Sussex on Monday.

After the game, you get a lot of tweets and things like that where people are telling you what you’ve done (an unbeaten 73, equalling the record for the highest score by anyone taking six wickets - a one-day career-best 6-43 - in an English domestic one-day game since 1990) and it’s nice to read all of those messages.

It was also important that we got off to a good start in a new competition and I’m happy that we’ve managed to do that.

Vincey (James Vince) hit a great century and pretty much all of the other batsmen contributed – Sussex were in the game for a long time but we managed to get ourselves to a good score before I bowled pretty well and got six wickets and we managed to get them out.

I’ll always back myself against anyone in one-day cricket. I’ve been pretty good in the one-day competitions for the last few years and played an important part in a lot of big games.

Fifty-over cricket is something that I’ve always targeted and hopefully I can carry on doing as well as I did on Monday in that competition - hopefully I’ve sent out a bit of a reminder to the coaches going forward as well.

I’ve not been involved in T20 games this season and I may have to try and focus on next season with that.

To be honest, I don’t know what’s going to happen in the Twenty20 quarter-finals.

I know that Essex would be quite keen for me to play for them but I need to have some discussions with Hampshire to find out what’s going on.

I’d play for Hampshire in the quarter-finals but I’ve not been in the team all year and we’ve been doing really well in the competition – maybe they’ll want to keep the same team that got them there and I’ll end up with Essex.

Before that, we’ve got another One-Day Cup game against Kent tonight to deal with.

They’ve been going well in the one-day competition and finished top of their Twenty20 group, so they’re going to be confident when we go there.
