WE’VE got two games to go, starting with Herefordshire this weekend, and we’re fifth in the table so I think any chance of winning the championship is over for us.

As a whole, the season has probably been a little bit disappointing for us. We’ve taken maximum bowling points this season but we’ve struggled with the bat.

Against Wales last week, we forfeited our bowling points to try and manufacture a game but that didn’t work out, which is a shame.

Last year, we had a lot of continuity in the team throughout the season and we had a nucleus of players that were available for every game but this year, we’ve had a lot of changes enforced on us, which hasn’t helped.

It’s just going to be about getting players into the team so that we can have a look at them for the rest of the season now. But we’re wary that we’ve got a lot of people that have been committed to the county for a long time and we don’t want to lose them so it’s about finding a balance.

Richard Oakley will be coming in to the team for the first time this weekend but he’s not a like-for-like replacement for Ed Young and it means that we’ll have to change the way that we play because we won’t have two spinners.

Rich is a nice lad and he’s taken 38 wickets (the most in the West of England Premier League) for his club side. From speaking to him, I know that he’s targeting 50 wickets, so he’s got 12 more to go before the season is finished.

Mikey Reynolds performed well when he played against Dorset and Cornwall earlier this season and he’ll be coming back in.

Andy Carroll is also knocking on the door.

It’s all well and good playing 50 overs on a Saturday but players have to realise that three-day cricket is a different animal, so you have to put people in to have a look at them.

We’ll get these two remaining games against Herefordshire and Oxfordshire and then we’ll get the message out to any other players that want to be considered for the county.

Herefordshire are a place below us in the table, so that game will be about bragging rights because we could still finish in the top three.

Then, Oxfordshire will be going for the title when we play them (on August 16-18), so they should be up for it.
