PURTON skipper Aaron Lee says his team are out to set the record straight as they looked to continue their upturn in form at home to Devizes this weekend.

Lee’s men edged to a narrow two-wicket success in a thrilling contest away at high-flying Marlborough last Saturday to make it two wins in their last three fixtures.

Those results have helped Purton put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone, having endured a tough start to the campaign with seven defeats from the opening 10 matches One of those came when Purton travelled to Devizes at the end of May as the visitors went down by five wickets in west Wiltshire.

Lee says his troops know what was their undoing that day and added that the confidence that is currently flowing through the camp will give Purton a big opportunity to restore pride this time around.

However, the skipper knows a close contest is likely to ensue as Devizes are not short of belief themselves after recording back-to-back wins over the last fortnight.

“Devizes are a really good side but we didn’t play our best cricket when we met them at their place earlier in the season and it still ended up being a really close game between us,” said Lee.

“They are on a run of very good form at the moment, so we know it’s going to be another tough game against them.

“We have had two wins from the last three games and even in the game we lost against Westbury I felt like we played pretty well.

“We’ve definitely come on quite a lot in the last few weeks and we have to look to try to carry the confidence we’ve built up from the previous results into this game and try to get another win under our belts.”

Marlborough will be looking to get back to winning ways when they make the short journey to third-from-bottom Calne.

Arran Dickinson’s side had been in the title mix for much of the early summer but the Purton defeat was their third in a row and they are now 36 points off the pace currently set by league leaders Trowbridge.
