SWINDON swimmer Jazz Carlin booked her place in tonight's final of the women's 400m freestyle at the World Championships in Russia this morning.
Tigersharks ace Carlin, based at the University of Bath, clocked 4:07.15 to finished joint sixth fastest in this morning's heats in Kazan, finishing behind New Zealander Lauren Boyle in her heat.
Having finished fourth in the event at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona, European champion Carlin touched joint second in her heat.
“I think it was just about getting into the meet,” said Carlin. “You’re always a bit nervous but I’m going to go into the final tonight and do the best I can and hopefully I’ll be quite a bit quicker tonight.”
American Katie Ledecky, the gold medallist at the 400, 800, and 1500 metres freestyle at the last world championships, was a convincing fastest qualifier from the heats, clocking 4:01.73.
The final is due to take place at around 6.30pm local time (around 4.30pm British time) later today.
