A BRACE for player/manager Alan Griffin helped to maintain Malmesbury Vics’ 100 per cent record in the Wiltshire League.

Having put 10 past Vale of Pewsey without reply on Saturday, Tuesday night’s affair with Wilts Calne Town was a much closer contest as the home side secured a 3-2 victory.

Despite a sloppy performance from Griffin’s side it was the Flying Monk chief who opened the scoring with a 25-yard free-kick.

The visitors pulled things back level before half time, but Griffin restored the hosts' lead 10 minutes into the second half.

Town fought back for a second time and it looked like it would be enough to earn a point, until five minutes from the end when Ed Wilkins was able to secure Malmesbury’s fourth win on the bounce.

Trowbridge Town are keeping the pressure on the league leaders as they secured a more convincing 8-1 victory over the same outfit on Saturday.

A Nick Ridout hat-trick, a brace from Phil Baker and strikes from Matt Sharp, Ryan Nicholls and Dan Fowler completed the rout.

Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves secured their first win of the campaign on Tuesday night as they came out 3-1 victors at home to Chippenham Park Development, while Wroughton and Marlborough Town shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Bassett bounced back from a 1-0 defeat on Saturday at the hands of Melksham Town Reserves, one of three teams with a perfect record in the league.

Meanwhile Trowbridge Wanderers put last week’s defeat to their close rivals behind them with a 7-3 victory at home to Wroughton on Saturday, which they followed up with a 4-1 win over Corsham Town on Tuesday night.

Having drawn their opening two games of the season, Ludgershall Sports have kicked their season into gear with a 10-1 win over Andover New Street on Saturday, followed by a 5-0 success away to Devizes Town.

Sarum Youth secured their first points of the new season, having completed a 5-1 victory over bottom-of-the-league Andover New Street.
