CORSHAM Town assistant manager Ant Brown thinks his team’s strength of character has carried them to the top of the table.

Jeff Roberts’ side are level on points with local rivals Warminster Town and, on Wednesday night, a last-gasp Dan King goal rescued a point against Chipping Sodbury Town.

Brown reckons that fightback simply serves to demonstrate the willpower possessed by the squad.

“The attitude shown by the players has been fantastic all season. There have been times when we’ve had to dig in to get a result and we’ve always come through,” said Brown.

“On Wednesday, we didn’t know what to expect and they came and were a good, well-organised side.

“We’ve been using a formation with three at the back for most of the season and they came at us with almost a 4-2-4, which surprised us and exposed us at the back.

“We were a goal down at half-time but we made some changes and took the game to them in the second half.

“We had lots of chances and we're knocking at the door a lot. Ben Thomson had a good chance, which would have gone in on another day, and then someone else did – the goal came in the 90th minute through a calm finish from Dan King.

We deserved it and it carried on our good start to the season. The character from the lads has been great and hopefully we can carry it on.”

On Saturday, Town cracked five goals past Keynsham Town.

Keynsham wasted two great opportunities to take the lead in the opening stages before King fired home the first goal of the afternoon.

The visitors’ Stefan Lee restored parity before the break but Corsham roared back in the second period, with Levi Cox making it 2-1.

An injury to the referee resulted in the linesman taking over the whistle and the new official awarded the hosts a penalty, which was dispatched by Cox as he grabbed his second of the game.

Substitute Danny Baker got Corsham’s fourth goal as he smashed home a spectacular volley from 25 yards before defender Sam Ockwell rounded off the scoring.
