SWINDON Robins put a nightmare week off the track behind them to secure all three points with a 51-39 win over Leicester Lions.

Grzegorz Zengota scored an impressive 13+1 as he helped Swindon to a solid victory to leave them needing just one more win to secure a place in the play-offs.

It was the first meeting for Swindon since Darcy Ward’s horror crash in Poland on Sunday, with Coventry Bees captain Chris Harris coming in to fill the void.

While Leicester were without Simon Lambert because his Premier League club Peterborough were riding at Ipswich.

Lambert's place was taken by Oliver Greenwood who partnered Steve Worrall, covering for Josh Auty, at reserve.

Jason Doyle was out of the gates the quickest in heat one and he was followed by Sam Masters as they secured a comfortable maximum over Harris and Aaron Summers to take an early lead.

Former Robins reserve Worrall showed that he had not forgotten the Abbey as he took the inside line and kept the lead out of bend two in heat two, with Robert Branford and Charles Wright following him home.

Swindon were back on level terms in heat three as Nick Morris flew out of the gates and was supported well underneath by Troy Batchelor, with Piotr Siwderski failing to finish.

Zengota flew around the track to claim a comfortable win in heat four and, with Branford toiling with Greenwood, Szymon Wozniak comes underneath for second spot.

Summers got a good start in heat five and just did enough to keep Masters behind him, with Worrall falling going into the first bend of the second lap.

Zengota and Morris got a good start in heat six but the Aussie just couldn’t do enough to keep Doyle behind him, being taken out of bend four of the first lap, with Swiderski again retiring.

Wozniak gated well in heat seven and Harris did just enough to keep Walasek behind him out of bend two, before storming into the lead down the back straight on the second lap.

Zengota, who had looked superb in his first two heats, was left stationary at the start of heat eight after his chain came off.

Chain intact, Zengota flew off the line at the second time of asking to take the lead but Branford struggled at the back and was fortunate not to go into the air fence on the second lap.

In heat nine Wozniak started well along with Worrall, who was in to replace Greenwood, but Summers was able to claw back second place and pushed the Pole all the way.

Batchelor went all the way around the outside of bends one and two to take the lead in heat 10, with Morris fighting back third place from Masters coming out of bend four of the first lap.

Summers was out of the traps quickly in heat 11 and Harris looked to be struggling at the back before reeling in Swiderski, who failed to finish again, and Walasek for a maximum and stretch Swindon’s lead to 10 points.

Worrall gated well to claim his second win in the battle of the reserves, but Wright and Branford were able to keep Greenwood behind them to maintain their advantage.

A share of the points in heat 13 all but secured the win for the hosts.

Batchelor beat Doyle to the first bend but the Leicester man had more pace coming out of the second bend to take the lead, with Harris battling hard to claim third place on the penultimate lap.

In heat 14 Morris got a great start and he was followed into the first bend by Zengota for a maximum to stretch the lead.

After Morris fell on the first lap of heat 15, Doyle was able to deny Zengota a paid maximum when the Pole went too deep into the second bend to hand the Aussie the win.
