POTTERNE kept the party going for one more week as they defeated Goatacre by 81 runs.

The Grove side were crowned Premier Two champions last weekend following their 205-run success at Cheltenham.

But Neil Clark and his players brought the carnival home to claim a derby success.

Skipper Clark and Ed Young both struck centuries, 108 and 111 respectively, as the champions posted 276-9.

Potterne then wasted little in removing the Goats as they picked up four wickets with only one run on the board with Jake Roberts (5-56) removing Jack Haines, Giorgio Rigali and Toby Horton.

Ed Wilkins (25) staged a mini revival for the hosts but the damage had already been done before Kevin Iles (40) and Matt House (20) shared a ninth-wicket stand of 51. However the Goats were bowled for 195 “It was a great day for the club,” Clark said. “I couldn’t have asked for more.

“Before the match I was worried about the boys taking the game seriously because we had already won the league.

“I wanted us to finish the season on a high and we have done that.

“There were a lot of people up at the club on Saturday and it was great that everyone was there to celebrate.”

Clark was also pleased that he was able shine as he had family over from America watching him play for the first time.

“My aunty (Cathy) and uncle (Michael) were there watching me. They had come over for a visit from the States and came along to the match,” Clark said.

“I also had lots of cousins at the match who I hadn’t seen for while so that was nice.

“It was a tricky pitch to play on as apart from Ed and myself only one other player (Luke De Souza) got into double figures and he scored 12.

“With all the rain we had in the lead up it had been difficult to prepare a wicket.”

Meanwhile, Clark said that he had been impressed with the skills on show from the England Visually Impaired team as they headed to the club for a match on Sunday morning, with 16 England players on show and six Potterne taking part in the game.

“It was brilliant to see the skills on show,” Clark said. “There was one Twenty20 match and the teams were mixed up.”
