CALNE Town are still searching for their first win of the season but picked up a point at unbeaten county rivals Warminster Town last Saturday.

The Lilywhites travelled to Weymouth Street looking to get themselves off the mark and had the better of proceedings in the opening half but failed to fashion a breakthrough in the first 45 minutes.

Early in the second period, Warminster’s Tom Welch crossed for Jack Miluk to fire into the side-netting before Tom Golledge came on for the injured Alex Lapham and set up Charlie Walton, who fired just over the bar from the edge of the Calne box.

Just past the hour mark, Golledge and Miluk linked up down the right flank and the latter saw his shot deflected behind for a corner.

Welch took the flag-kick and defender Dan Price headed home at the far post to put Neurin Jones’ men a goal down.

But Calne rallied and hit back through a corner of their own, with striker Glenn Armstrong managing to find the net straight from the kick, despite the home side appealing for a foul on keeper Carl Crabtree from the Lilywhites’ Kris Beasley.

Warminster piled on the pressure in the final ten minutes and a last-gasp opportunity presented itself when Miluk’s cross was kept in by Paul Farrell, whose ball back into the danger area was just missed at the far post by Golledge.

Jones' men travel to Roman Glass St George in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase next weekend.
