ALISON Fail and Janet Willis both head out in search of a hat-trick of titles when they feature in three of the Swindon & District Women’s Bowling Association finals at Westlecot tomorrow.

Purton and Wiltshire Johns Trophy bowler Fail will compete in three separate events, having qualified for the finals in the champion of champions singles, secretary’s singles and four-wood singles.

Meanwhile, county bowler Willis, from the Stratton Churchway club, is also through to three finals.

She contests the champion of champions final against Fail, teams-up with Katherine Riach and Wendy Anderson in the charity triples against Haydon Wick and leads holders Stratton in the defence of their double rink crown against Wanborough.

Elsewhere, Fail defends the secretary’s cup against Babs Salter (Wroughton) and also meets Geraldine Reade (Westlecot) in the four-wood singles final.

Earlier in the morning, Reade plays Linda Kingston (Highworth) in the two-wood singles final over 21 ends.

The pairs final sees Wroughton’s Margaret Dowthwaite and Lynda Whittingham face Wanborough’s Julia Hunt and Deanne Davis in the morning, then in the afternoon, Hunt and Davis compete in the double rinks team event for Wanborough against Stratton Churchway.

LOCAL clubs Westlecot and Wootton Bassett endured mixed fortunes last weekend in the men’s overall Wiltshire Four Rink League play-off semi-finals.

The former thumped depleted Spencer Moulton (Bradford-on-Avon) 80-52 at Swindon West End, while holders Wootton Bassett were second best to Holt, going down 88-64 at Chippenham Town to the runaway winners in Area C.

Westlecot’s opponents failed to field a full side for their clash with Bassett and despite the score sitting at 42-36 after ten ends, Moulton were then blown away in the second-half and conceded with 14 ends left to play across the board.

They take on Holt in the final at Devizes tomorrow (2.30pm).

Meanwhile, Bassett were locked in a tight battle for three quarters of their semi-final against Westlecot for the Four Rink title before capitulating in the closing stages, with Tom Walkley’s quartet the only victors as they won their match 18-16.

SHAUN Hicks (Highworth) and Lawrence Smith (Wootton Bassett) are through to today’s unbadged singles final at Devizes after progressing past Frazier Boynton (21-20) and Ian Higgins (21-9) and Mike Crane (21-18) and Highworth’s Brian Stokes (21-11) respectively at Chippenham Town last week.

The over 60s triples final is also taking place at Devizes this weekend but two Purton trios lost in the semi-finals to teams from Holt and Chippenham Town respectively, while Alan Gough (Stratton Churchway) also failed to make it to the champion of champions title-decider after losing 21-4 to Nick Grenfall.
