SWINDON fans are being asked to donate their spare football scarves to aid Doctors of the World and their efforts to keep the refugees in Calais warm.

The ‘Refugees Are Our Football Family’ campaign is being organised by the T-shirt company Philosophy Football and is backed by the Football Supporters’ Federation, Football Action Network, Football Against Racism in Europe, Football Beyond Borders, Kick it Out, the Hope not Hate campaign and the fanzine When Saturday Comes.

The campaign’s initial aim is to raise funds by selling t-shirts to support Doctors of the World. With winter approaching, the conditions in the refugee camps in Calais will worsen and the campaign are also asking for football fans to send in their old scarves to keep refugees warm.

Swindon fans, and supporters across the country, are being asked to send in old club scarves to Philosophy Football.

Woollens are on the list of goods the refugee charities most need and fans can help out with lorryloads of scarves taken to the camp by a Wembley to Calais convoy.

Mark Perryman from Philosophy football hopes the campaign can show the generosity of spirit amongst football fans.

He said: “To raise a lot of money, going directly to where the help is needed most, backed by hundreds and thousands, of fans wearing the message that ours is a football culture that is open and welcoming, with a human generosity of spirit.

“The lorries carrying the scarves will partake in a journey of hope from a home of football; a powerful symbol of the kind of humanitarian hospitality all fans can be proud of.”

The' Refugees Are Our Football Family' T-shirt is available from www.philosophyfootball.com.

The campaign are also requesting for clean, good condition club scarves to be sent to: Philosophy Football PO Box 11140, Harwich CO12 9AP. Please include your name, address and email in legible writing.
