FROME Town's recent revival continued as they stretched their unbeaten run to four matches with victory over south west rivals Cirencester Town.

Nick Bunyard's men had the best of the opening exchanges and in the 26th minute, a run from Kris Miller took him through three tackles before winning a corner, and from that set-piece, Liam Monelle found space in the box to hit a right-foot shot that just skimmed the post, ending up in the side netting.

In a fast, physical game, Cirencester had chances around the half hour as first Charlie Griffin and then Connor Thompson found space to hit snap-shots just wide when in good positions.

But then in the 37th minute, Frome took the lead as a great ball from Miller found Monelle in space on the left wing, and the dangerous forward cut inside his marker and hit a superb low shot into the far corner of the goal.

However, Frome’s lead only lasted a minute and as a flowing right-wing move from Cirencester was finished off by Thompson as he shot home from six yards out with a lot of the Frome defence still appealing for a handball that they believe should have been awarded.

But the Robins made it 2-1 in the 44th minute as a free-kick for a dangerous tackle on Chris Knowles was slanted into the area, and Miller was on hand to collect and control the ball before firing home via a slight deflection.

Frome came flying out of the blocks at the start of the second half and the first five minutes saw chaos in the Cirencester box as they struggled to deal with the attacks, but they rode out the storm and started to look settled again.

But the Ciren back line were neary to be nearly caught out in the 59th minute as a ball over the top saw the impressive Monelle use his pace and strength to win the ball from Mark Pritchett, but as he he cut inside with just the keeper to beat, his right foot-shot cleared the top corner.

But Monelle was not going to be denied and a minute later, a superb ball from Knowles set him free on the right and this time he cut in and cleverly pulled the ball across the box, allowing Lewis Haldane to produce a deft backheel that clipped the ball into the net and gave Frome a two-goal advantage.

With Darren Chitty hobbling visibly by this time, Frome looked to consolidate their lead and protect their keeper, and after a five-minute stoppage due to an injury to the referee that required a member of the crowd to take over running the line, they managed to produce a composed performance that restricted Cirencester to long-range shots and regulation saves.

Cirencester’s Glyn Garner pulled off the save of the night to deny substitute Joe Tumelty as he cut inside and let fly from 20 yards, but Chitty could do little to prevent Cirencester from pulling it back to 3-2 in the fourth minute of injury time as centre-half Adam Connolly provided a perfect example of how to hit a 25-yard shot with power and swerve and also to keep it low.

The five remaining minutes were nail biting for the home crowd, but there were no more incidents and the crowd were able to applaud the team for a four-match unbeaten run against distinguished opposition.
