SEAN Millwaters says that Supermarine have the big picture in mind as their Dorset & Wilts One North campaign wears on.

After being beaten at league rivals Minety in the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Vase last weekend Supermarine turn their attentions back to the maintaining their unbeaten start to the league this weekend as they welcome Combe Down to South Marston.

Millwaters’ men lost every match of their season in the Southern Counties South division last term but the Supermarine head coach says that instant promotion back to step seven rugby isn’t the primary aim for his side as they look to nurture their young talent.

“We’ve got a lot of young players coming through and a lot of those young lads haven’t really played a lot of senior rugby, so it’s all about trying to develop them,” said Millwaters.

“We’ve got something of a two or three-year plan – we want to try and finish in the top six or the top four this season and bring those young players along.

“We had six or seven players in the side last weekend that were 19 years old or younger.

“We also had 10 players missing last weekend and hopefully we can get some of them back for this weekend but they’re not professionals, so I can’t say how many will be back available.

“Combe Down are also unbeaten, so it’s going to be a difficult game on Saturday.

“Minety lost there earlier this season but from speaking to them last weekend, they said that they didn’t play well that day, so we should disregard that result.

“It’s tough and we’re going to put everything into trying to beat Combe Down and carry on our good start to the season.”
