SWINDON legend Leigh Adams has recalled his great memories of the Abbey as the club prepare to bid farewell to the stadium on Sunday.

The Australian ace enjoyed 12 seasons with the club, cementing his place as arguably the most iconic rider in the modern era of the Robins.

The club's all-time leading points scorer admits it will be a sad day as the famous venue closes its doors on what is set to be an emotional evening on Sunday.

But he believes a new era starting at a new stadium next year will provide Swindon with a major boost.

“I have a huge connection with the place,” Adams said. “That was my first Elite League track, and it just went from there.

“I did my first year at Poole, Swindon came in for me and it became home.

“We brought the kids up there, it was a good place to live, very central for airports, all those logistics were really cool.

“It’s going to be a sad day when the Abbey goes, but there’s always something better around the corner. When one door shuts, another one opens.

“A new stadium will be good for the town.”
