SWINDON Robins’ Grzegorz Zengota was shocked when it was revealed that he had won this year’s Swindon Advertiser Rider of the Year Award.

The 27-year-old stormed to victory in the polls as his consistently strong performances won over the Abbey faithful.

The Pole came back for a third season with the Robins having previously ridden for the club in 2010 and 2011.

Zengota was one of the stand-out riders of the year, but almost lost his place in the team with the arrival of Darcy Ward.

However, that challenge with Brit Kyle Howarth sparked him into life and Robins fans saw the best of Zengota who ended the season with the highest points average, ending on 7.79 – a 1.64 improvement on his starting average.

Performances like his 16 paid points in Swindon’s victory at Wolverhampton Wolves, whilst wearing Troy Batchelor’s kevlars, went a long way to earning him the end of season gong.

Zengota was delighted to be told news of his prize, which will be presented to him at the Abbey Farewell meeting tomorrow, and is hoping for more success with Swindon.

“This is really good information for me,” said Zengota, who also picked up the Rider of the Year award during his time with Coventry Bees.

“I am so happy that I can be Swindon’s Rider of the Year.

“I hope that we can do the same and better for me next year.

“It was a fantastic year for me and I took a good step to be better.

“I am very satisfied by my own performance, however I am not satisfied for the team because we had a very good team and we should have been in the final.”

Zengota has not had talks with Robins owner Terry Russell about his future at the club but is hopeful a deal can be arranged to see him return to Swindon’s new home next spring.

“I have not started talks with the club about next season, but I am at Swindon on Sunday and maybe we will talk about next season,” he added.

“I would like to stay in Swindon. I feel really good in the team and I have settled well in the town so I would like the same.

“On Sunday we must start the talks.

“It will be the last time on the track, the next season we will be on another track so I will like to put on a good show for the fans.

“I have had a good time on this track, but there will be another track and hopefully it’ll be better.”

The lucky winnner of the draw for a 2016 Swindon Robins season ticket is Mr William Tustin of Faringdon. The Adver’s marketing team will be in touch shortly to arrange your prize.
