TWO of this season’s fancied sides for Knockout Cup success, Freshford United and Westbury Town, were paired together in the second round.

Westbury eventually came out on top, winning 2-1 with their winner coming in the first half of extra time.

Craig Brown’s goal gave Freshford a half-time lead. Nick Mead’s equaliser for Westbury took the game to added time where Joe Moloney fired home the winner for Jason Edwards side who are now firm favourites to lift the Chantry Digital-sponsored trophy.

Second division Melksham Town A came from 2-0 down to beat first division Castle Combe 3-2.

Quennan Tarawali scored both goals for Combe before Jordan Evans got Melksham back in the game before half time.

After the break Sam Robinson levelled matters for Melksham and James Dark won it when he converted from the penalty spot for 3-2.

Having already beaten Hilperton United earlier in the season, Heytesbury arrived at Whaddon Lane looking to put an end to their hosts hopes of lifting the cup for another season.

After a pulsating 120 minutes it was the visitors who prevailed courtesy of a 4-2 success.

Heytesbury got their noses in front on 10 minutes a long ball from keeper Declan Griffiths found Ashley Caws who in turn picked out Leigh Kennedy with a delightful ball, Kennedy then turning his marker and placed a stunning finish into the far corner of the net.

Heytesbury doubled their lead on 71 minutes, Kennedy scoring his second to make it 2-0.

Hilperton got themselves back in the tie on 73 minutes, Craig Sheppard making it 2-1. The hosts were awarded a penalty in the final minute, Kieran Fereday saw his effort from the spot brilliantly turned around the post by keeper Sam Spratt.

Hilperton looked to have blown their hopes of taking the game to extra time but deep in stoppage time Chris Foley tied the score.

With neither team able to make a breakthrough in the first period of added time, Heytesbury managed to do so in the 116th minute when Kieron Edwards set Leigh Kennedy up for his hat-trick goal and soon after Shaun Tarr played in Ashley Caws to finish the scoring and hand Heytesbury a thrilling win.

Second division Luxol St Andrews Reserves played host to first division basement side Westbury United Reserves, who were looking to bag a first win of the season.

It wasn’t too be as Luxol triumphed 3-1 to set up a meeting with their first team's conquerors White Horse in the next round.

Terry Askew saw his opener for Luxol cancelled out by Josh Gardiner who squared things up at the break.

Kieran Green headed Luxol back in front and a second for Askew sealed victory for Bobby Cunningham’s side.

Last term's beaten finalists Potterne FC took on second division opponents Trowbridge Town Reserves and, as expected, Craig Campbell’s first division outfit booked their spot in the quarter-final line up but they didn’t have things all their own way despite running out 4-0 winners.

In what was a pretty even first half, Dean Gumm missed two very good openings for Trowbridge prior to Clive McDaid putting Potterne ahead on 43 minutes.

The second period saw Potterne have more of the play and they went 2-0 up on 55 minutes, Carl Ledbury finding the net.

Town then lost Aaron McCaldon and a weakened defence then conceded further goals late on, Tom Lye and Steven House completing the scoring.

The all-first division clash at Little Marsh saw Dave Jenkins, Semington Magpies take on table toppers Warminster Town Reserves.

With the teams set to meet in the league in a fortnight’s time it will be Warminster who go into that contest on a high. Matt Dyer’s first-half effort turned out to be Warminster’s winner.

First division Aces FC struggled to see off a battling AFC Bradley in the previous round, but thanks to a Mike Little double they set up a meeting with second division United FC and once again they had to work hard to book their place in the last eight.

Tom Pang gave Aces a half-time lead and although United had chances of their own to get back in the game, they paid the price for failing to take them as Pang sealed Aces victory when he scored a second-half penalty after Greg Richardson had been fouled to seal a 2-0 win.

Allan Clarke’s cup holders White Horse FC began the defence of the trophy they won in April when they come from 2-0 down to beat Potterne 3-2.

Once again they did things the hard way as they overturned a half-time deficit before claiming 2-1 victory over first division stablemates Luxol St Andrews.

A goal on his debut from Chris Michaels put Luxol in front. White Horse got themselves back on level terms early in the second half when Kane Scott saw his cross turned home by a Luxol player.

With five minutes remaining Steve Munday fired home from 12 yards to put White Horse 2-1 up.

With time running out Luxol thought they had scored an equaliser, but it wasn’t to be as Reuben Spong saw his goal-bound effort superbly kept out by keeper Lewis Porter, whose incredible save won the tie for White Horse.
