GYMNASTS from the Chippenham Moonraker Gymnastics Club picked up a gold and silver team medal at the recent final round of West Country League.

The West Country League runs three matches across five divisions. Within each division are three leagues – A, B and C – of ascending difficulty requirements, and the best two results combine to give a final ranking position for the year.

Chippenham Moonraker currently competes in Division 3 at A and B level.

The A League gymnasts – Sophie Townsend, Ellie Kimber, Ellie Treacy, Freya Gleed, Emily Macklin-Day and Eva Falcone-Healy, all under 11 years of age, took the silver medal just behind Cardiff Olympic Gymnastics Club.

Emily Macklin-Day placed third overall in the individual event, as well as third on the beam along with team mate Eva Falcone-Healy who also placed third on the vault. Sophie Townsend placed third on the floor and Ellie Kimber first on the asymmetric bars. The very young team finished in fourth place overall in the division for 2015.

The B League team of Mia Wright, Maisie Russell, Kelsey Stokes, Katie Strange, Morgan Sanderson and Lauren Searle; whose ages range from 11 to 14 years; were sitting in joint first in the league along with Baskervilles of Bath took the gold medal in the match to become West Country League Champions for 2015.

Katie Strange also took the individual all around title along with first place on the floor and second place on the beam; Morgan Sanderson was third in the all around and Mia Wright second on the vault.
