ON the bus for the Wildcats' away games can be an interesting experience.

We are quite lucky now, because things are heading in the right direction, the club give us the bigger bus for the longer trips.

We used to be in the mini-bus for every game when I first started, with Ryan Aldridge driving us, but the Barnes coaches are a lot more comfortable.

It can be quite boring, with people doing different things to kill time. On a Barnes coach we often have a movie on but a lot of the time boys are just sleeping or using their iPads and listening to music.

It is very routine and everyone has their seats that they normally sit in, with Jonas Hoog and Sam Bullas, since I have been here, always occupying the back seat.

Jonas doesn’t normally have anyone sat next to him either and in the last two years, where he has come back a couple of months in, he just falls straight back into that with the space left.

We have the longest trip of the season on Sunday when we travel to Hull, which we will do there and back in one day, and often if you have a slow start to a game or you are not playing as well as you should be, people say that is your bus legs.

We don’t tend to change an awful lot in the warm-up routine but often I would try to make more of an effort to do some running and get the blood flowing a bit more after the journey.

We often play two-touch football away from home, and Bully would want a mention because he is the best at it – not for his skill but for his lack of effort.

Often the more interesting stuff is on the way back, especially if you have had a good game it can be quite fun coming back.

You’ve got to remember that on a Friday and Saturday night, when everyone is usually out having fun, we have to think about the following day’s game so Sunday is an opportunity to relax a bit.

Our kit guy, Steve Bradford, can entertain the whole bus on the way home.

Swindon Robins team manager Alun Rossiter was the guest driver for our trip to Bracknell and he pushed the limits a little bit and, after years of just turning left on a speedway bike, I wasn’t sure if he knew how to turn right when we came off the M4.
