JOHN Fisher is hoping for the joy of six this weekend as Highworth Town look to extend their winning run.

The Worthians have triumphed five times on the bounce in a sequence dating back to mid-October, and should fancy their chances of bagging another three points against Premier Division strugglers Abingdon United on Saturday.

However, with Abingdon having downed high-flying Flackwell Heath just a fortnight ago, Fisher has urged caution ahead of the clash at The Elms.

“It’s going well at the moment. Abingdon are another one of those sides where if you have got any serious ambitions of winning the league, you have to beat,” said Fisher.

“If we play like we have been playing recently we will be OK. We need to keep the momentum going, winning becomes a habit.

“These are the sort sides who can be banana skins and if you take them lightly you can get beat.

“Abingdon beat Flackwell not too long ago and Flackwell probably went there thinking it was a forgone conclusion, so it just shows that you have to be wary.

“It’s the bottom half you need to worry about and in the four games against Wokingham, Tuffley, Milton and Longlevens recently, we’ve won them all. This is another one we have to get three points from.

“After this game we have got three massive games against Binfield and Thatcham in the league and Salisbury in the FA Vase, which isn’t a bad one is it? But then if you want to win the league, they are all massive games, I suppose.”

Highworth will be without the services of Johnny Aitkenhead again this weekend, and Fisher fears he could be missing for some time.

It is a week too soon for Richie Saunders to make his comeback from a shoulder injury, while Nathan Gambling is away.

Fisher said: “We are worried about Johnny. If it’s his cartilage in his knee he could be out long-term.

“He is a big player for us and can play full-back or centre back. He’s one player but gives us three options as he can play anywhere across the back four.

“We don’t need to be picking up injuries but there’s nothing we can do to avoid it, we just have to keep our fingers crossed.”

Meanwhile, Royal Wootton Bassett Town will be looking to return to form after seeing their four-match winning run ended last weekend.

Paul Braithwaite’s men went down 2-0 at home to Milton United and are back at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground this weekend when they play host to second-from-bottom Bracknell Town.
