SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb saw it as a point gained rather than two points lost as his side fought back to claim a 2-2 draw at home to 10-man Banbury United.

The visitors went into the game on the back of four straight wins, but it was the Webb’s Wood outfit who took the lead when the unlikely source of Ash Taylor fired home from the edge of the box in the 32nd minute.

The visitors were not behind for long as Darius Browne notched in the 40th minute before Leam Howards saw red just a minute shy of the interval.

However, that didn’t deter the away side and they took the lead through Ricky Johnson in the 64th minute.

Despite Banbury parking the proverbial bus for the remainder of the game Josh Parsons was gifted a free header with 10 minutes to secure the point and keep Marine in the play-off picture.

“I see it as another point and, although many people would be thinking you should beat 10 men and get all three, Banbury fought so well to get something from the game,” said Webb.

“It was always going to be a tight game. They are one of the in-form sides in the league and they showed that.

“We’d worked so hard to get in front and we should have put some distance on the ball or just defended our goal a little bit better for their first goal.

“We have tried to play the ball in a bad area and got caught and then they have had a man sent off.

“Those two incidents have probably changed the game a little bit second half you know it is always going to be difficult against 10 men.

“They defended really well and very deep and relied on the counter.

“We were camped in their half for most of the second half but they broke away and scored and you are really up against it then.

“Credit to the players. They kept at it, in difficult conditions, and got a well-deserved equaliser and probably could have won it at the end but it wasn’t to be.”

The result leaves Supermarine in sixth spot just a place outside the play-offs and four points behind Saturday’s opponents Banbury.

With seven games in the month of December for Webb’s side he knows it is important to keep picking up the points to ensure they are still in with a shout come the new year.

“That’s what we have got to do now in the games coming up – fight for every point,” he added.

“It won’t be those games against the top sides that determine where we finish, it will be the sides mid-table and below.

“We can’t afford any slip-ups against teams we need to beat and, there are no easy games in the league, we need to make sure when we play those sides we take care of them.”
