TRUST STFC are delighted to have secured a partnership with the Swindon Advertiser to promote the #5ktoCoventry initiative.

On March 19, Swindon Town travel to the Ricoh Arena – at 180 miles, amongst the shortest round trips in ‘League One North’ this season.

And we’re calling on Robins fans young and old to make the trip up the M5 to lend support to Luke Williams and the team.

Of course, we recognise that 5,000 is a frankly daft goal - but the aim is to get those supporters who might otherwise spend the afternoon on the sofa, boarding coaches, cars and trains and add to the atmosphere.

Wouldn’t it be incredible if we could at least beat the previous best travelling attendance to the Ricoh of just over 3,000 back in 2013?

This could be the chance for a lapsed fan to rekindle his passion for the club.

It could be an opportunity to give a youngster his or her first experience of following Town on the road or it could be an excuse for a day out and a few drinks with friends.

Whatever the reason, the initial reaction to the initiative has been encouraging, with dozens of fans on social media lending their backing to our plans.

The Supporters Club have pledged to assist with travel and now the Adver is ensuring that our message is spread throughout the build-up to the event.

More details will follow in due course, which will be announced through the Adver and on our website – www.truststfc.com.

But don’t forget that you can book a lift via our car-pool app by visiting gocarshare.com/swindon-town-fc/coventry-v-swindon.

In the meantime, our efforts to improve crowds at the County Ground and the general matchday experience in SN1 continues.

Behind the scenes, Trust board members are actively involved in negotiations with the club regarding a potential repeat of the Fleetwood match last season, which saw a couple of thousand schoolchildren get a free taste of a Town victory.

Further meetings are due to take place with both the club and the North Wilts Youth League this week.

Last season, the ‘Trust in Schools’ ticket campaign brought around 500 to 700 extra faces to the County Ground on matchdays and, if we can find a suitable formula with the club, we hope to promote Swindon Town to the community in this format once again in the medium term.

Let’s keep the soul in Swindon Town.

Until next time.
