SWINDON Supermarine will be hoping that it won’t be a case of unlucky 13 when they make the short to trip bogey side Bishops Cleeve tomorrow.

Dave Webb’s men made it 12 games unbeaten in Division One South and West on Tuesday night when they put bottom of the table Bashley to the sword with a 4-0 success.

However, while the Kayte Lane outfit may be sitting in mid-table and have conceded 10 goals in their last two outings – a 3-1 loss to leaders Cinderford on Tuesday and a 7-0 thrashing at AFC Totton in December – Cleeve beat Supermarine 2-1 in August as well as defeating them 3-2 at the Webb’s Wood Stadium in January last year.

“They have been a bit of a bogey side of late,” said Webb, who is set to welcome back strikers Josh Parsons and Connor Waldon after resting them for the trip to Hampshire.

“(Manager) Steve (Cleal) has got a much stronger group there now and playing them on their own pitch is always tough.

“But if we are going to make the play-offs this year then we have to beat teams like Bishops Cleeve.

“They may have lost on Tuesday night 3-1 to Cinderford, but from all the reports I have read they pushed them all the way.

“We can’t go there expecting to win. We have got to be professional and put in one of our best performances of the season.”

Webb, who is without the unavailable Connor Thompson and Ash Taylor for the trip to the Cotswolds, is keen to keep Marine’s unbeaten run going.

The South Marston men have not lost in the Southern League since October 27 when they were defeated 2-0 by Cinderford.

Since that loss, Marine have hauled themselves up to third place in the table and sit six points off the summit.

“We want to keep this run going as long as we can, but we know every team that we face will want to try and end it,” Webb said.

“Bishops Cleeve will want to do that and even on Tuesday night, Bashley kept going and really made a game of it.

“The game at Bashley, which is a long way to go on Tuesday night, was one of those where you just want to get back on the coach with the win.

“We went there and scored four goals, kept a clean sheet and picked up no injuries – you can’t ask for any more than that.”
