SWINDON Town manager Luke Williams sees no reason why a relationship can’t be formed between them and Celtic after the Scottish club appointed Brendan Rodgers as their new manager.

The former Liverpool and Swansea chief was named as the new boss of the reigning Scottish Premier League champions after Ronny Deila stepped down at the end of the season.

The 43-year-old has been to the County Ground on a number of occasions in his nine months since being sacked by Liverpool to watch his son Anton.

While, during his spell at Anfield, the link between the two clubs led to a pre-season friendly being held at the County Ground last summer as well as Brad Smith, Lawrence Vigouroux, Kevin Stewart and Jordan Williams all being sent on loan to Wiltshire.

Now Williams is hoping that Town will be able to tap into the young players coming out of Celtic Park, a link that he believes could prove fruitful for both clubs.

“I don’t see why not,” Williams told BBC Wiltshire when asked about a possible arrangement between the two clubs.

“Brendan (Rodgers) has been at the County Ground plenty of times and obviously Anton is here so he knows a lot about the football club.

“I think that he would probably feel confident sending players to Swindon, probably more confident to send a player to us than any other League One club just because of that contact.

“That is what life is about. It is about having a contact and trusting that person because you know more about them.

“I would like to think he would consider us. I am sure there are some top players in the club at Celtic that would thrive and would be a perfect time for them to come and start their careers.

“It is an obvious link and we are an ideal club to take a player from Celtic and give them the experience and hopefully they will give us performances on the pitch.”
