WARMINSTER had to survive a late scare as they secured back-to-back wins with a 10-run success over Chippenham.

The visitors to Hardenhuish Park won the toss and opted to bat and got off to a fine start with Mark Coxon Tenty smashing 78 off 68 deliveries.

However, five of the last eight batsman failed to score above one run as Warminster were bowled out for 245 in this Premier Two Glos/Wilts clash.

Tom Davie’s side got off to the perfect start with the ball in hand as David Bateman caught opener Aaron Merryweather for just six runs, however, a partnership between Oliver Jones (53) and Owen Alsop (81) made for a tight finish.

Warminster were able to hold on with 10 runs remaining, Rory Cullinan taking two wickets, to the delight of Davie.

“It was a good win,” he said. “I used to live in Chippenham, so it was nice to head back to somewhere where I have spent a bit of time and get a win.

“They have been very competitive this year and looked strong and have started the season well.

“It is a real confidence booster for us to go away and beat them on their own patch and it was a really pleasing win.

“Mark, the old veteran, is still a class act and got us off to a fine start with his 78 off 68 balls.

“We were probably a bit too aggressive at the end of our innings but it was a positive move to bat first and we were really pleased with our total, definitely given the conditions.

“It was a bit nervy at the end and we had a few people head over to watch and they enjoyed the tight finish.

“We held our nerve really well and we have got a few experienced players at the end there who saw us over the line and I think that was the difference.”

Warminster will look to make it a hat-trick of wins when they host second-placed Lechlade tomorrow.

“We’re obviously really pleased with back-to-back wins in the league but we have got a tough one now this weekend,” added Davie.

“Lechlade are second and are a good side but the league is tight so anybody can beat anybody and we will certainly give it a good go.

“They have got what we would call a few superstars in their side and then are made up of bits and pieces so if you can get the big guns then you are certainly in the game.

“We’re usually pretty strong at home and we will be looking to win.”
