WESTBURY continued their impressive league form by picking up an eight-wicket win over top of the table Trowbridge at the weekend.

The highlight of the game came from Westbury opener Richard Mills who racked up 110 not out, including two sixes at the County Ground.

His good performance with the bat was reinforced by his teammate Branon Varley who registered four wickets and a catch during the afternoon’s play.

Westbury captain Alex Senneck was happy with the result and believes his team have real momentum going forward.

“It was a massive win against Trowbridge as they were top, we lost the toss on a bright sunny day and they chose to bat," he said.

“They made a steady start but we did well to keep it tight and we took some wickets when they were looking to press."

At 128-3 Trowbridge would only manage to add a further 10 runs before Varley completed his hat-trick when he sent Mike Reynolds packing for three.

His next victim was Brendon Louw when he caught him out for 34, leaving the home side with a total of 145-5.

Tom Weaver and John Carroll provided a further 21 collectively, before Varley took three balls to dismiss Weaver for a solitary run to leave Westbury a target of 225-7.

Westbury duo Mills and Jared MacDonald soon got to work and by the time MacDonald was dismissed it was already 98-1 Mills then outstayed Daniel Gibbs, who’s short stay gave the away side a further 17, and by this time Westbury were well on their way to reaching their target.

Mills and Varley continued to impress and both finished the game unbeaten for 110 and 35 respectively, with the away side registering a fifth consecutive win.

"He (Mills) has been batting well recently and has threatened to do it for a while, he’s a quality batsman and he’s focused at the moment which can only be a good thing for us," added Senneck. “It’s great that we have runs at the top of our order, they build the base for the rest of the team which is important.

“We now have three strong sides coming up in the league, but if we continue as we are and win every game we have a chance at the league.”
