THE chequebook of Swindon Town chairman Lee Power is not yet closed in this transfer window as he stays on the trail of two more loan signings.

Swindon have been busy since the eve of the League One season, with Nathan Delfouneso on a one-year contract, with the option for an extra year, the latest to arrive through the door at the County Ground.

The 25-year-old made his debut in Town’s 1-0 win over Port Vale on Saturday, with Bradley Barry’s strike enough to secure Swindon their second win of the season.

However, despite now having five strikers on the books at the club, Power has said that they are still looking at bringing in another forward on loan.

There is also money available in the budget, which has been significantly added to from last season with the sale of Nicky Ajose to Charlton Athletic, for a defender as Power looks to support Luke Williams before the transfer window closes on Wednesday, August 31.

“There are two positions (we’re looking at),” Power told BBC Wiltshire. “If we could find another defender and another forward; but only the right ones.

“We have probably got enough in the building now but there are two that we are looking at and we have kept money back.

“The budget has gone up by £500,000 this season, which is a lot, really.

“We are in the top half of budgets now and we have decided to put the Ajose money into the budget and we’ve got some of that kept by for a defender and a forward if they become available.

“It would be loans. What we are trying to do is use that money to put it on the budget and use it on wages.

“We’ve got our eye on two. If we get them, great. If we don’t, then we’ll go with what we have got.”

However, even if a further two are added to the squad, Power is confident that there will be no more players heading out of the door.

Jonathan Obika, who didn’t sign a contract extension at the end of last season, and Yaser Kasim have both been linked with moves away during the close season but while there has been interest in both, neither look like they will be moving, according to the Town chairman.

“We’ve had interest in Jon and a few others but that is not going to happen,” he added.

“Things are going to stay as they are unless something ridiculous happens between now and next week. The players will stay here and this is what we will go with.”
