WILTSHIRE rider Pete Kibble clinched a superb fourth place on the 2016 Junior Tour of Wales, the culmination of the season-long, nine-event British Cycling Road Race series.

The teenager from the hamlet of New Zealand, near Calne, was following the likes of Geraint Thomas, Mark Cavendish and Luke Rowe, who all graduated from the junior Tour podium to World Championships, Olympic gold and the Tour de France.

After finishing seventh in the opening individual time trial, Kibble pulled away on the final climb of stage two to take an emphatic stage win.

He was felled by a crash but rejoined the peloton in stage four, going on to place 15th on the fifth stage to place just off the general classification podium.

The result saw him claim third place in the National Junior Road Race series and he will begin his seniors career with the Zappi U23 team in 2017 and is seeking financial help for the new season. Email peter.kibble1@gmail.com
