DAVE Webb believes Swindon Supermarine stand as good a chance as anyone at ending Hereford’s unbeaten start to the Southern League Division One South & West season tonight.

The Bulls are sitting pretty at the summit with 10 wins and two draws from their opening dozen league games as they look to march back up the football pyramid.

Although Hereford are already fully justifying their tag as pre-season title favourites, Webb says his side will not be overawed by the illustrious visitors to the Webbswood Stadium.

Marine took their goals tally to 10 in two games with a 5-0 romp away at Bridgwater Town on Saturday and although the task ahead of them this evening is a difficult one, another performance like that could well see a shock unfold in South Marston.

“They are a massive club. You look at their history, it’s huge. They have massive support when they play at home and they bring huge support away, so we are expecting a good crowd,” said Webb.

“From my point of view, my players go in after great preparation because we’ve had two great wins, scoring 10 goals away from home. We look forward to it, we want to give a good account of ourselves.

“No one has beaten them yet and hopefully we can push them all the way and who knows, we may be that first team to cause that first defeat but we know how difficult it will be.

“To play against them creates a massive buzz and I said to the players on Saturday: ‘You couldn’t go in in better shape. Respect who they are but don’t over respect them’.”

Marine’s win at Bridgwater keeps them positioned in the play-off places and Webb reckons his troops are proving they are worthy contenders to be in the thick of the promotion battle.

“It’s about our overall objectives for the season and that is always to try to challenge and be in the top five. We are there at the moment and I think our football means we deserve to be there,” added Webb.

“We reached a really high level on Saturday and we just want to get somewhere near that on Tuesday and if we do, I’m sure we can cause Hereford some problems. Whether that’s good enough to win, we will have to wait and see.”

Marine came through their weekend trip to Somerset with a clean bill of health, while Webb is also hoping to welcome back a couple of faces into his squad tonight. Ryan Morgan is available again after suspension, while fellow defender Ryan Wood could return from concussion.

Meanwhile, Premier Division side Cirencester Town have put in seven days’ notice of approach for Marine midfielder Joe Selman.

l ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town will look to get back to winning ways in the Hellenic League Premier Division tonight when they travel to Brimscombe & Thrupp.
