DEVIZES Town made the most of their midweek action as they claimed a 3-1 triumph over Wincanton Town in the Toolstation First Division.

Goals from Jordan Matthews, Robert Mitchell and Tom Slater was enough to ensure that all three points remained at Nursteed Road.

After gaining a 2-0 lead, the home side were then pegged back to 2-1, before being reduced to ten men following Alistair, Bradley’s dismissal for two yellow cards midway through the second period.

Thankfully for the hosts, Tom Slater was able to claim the win when he headed home with 10 minutes left.

“It was a good game of football, to be fair. It was pretty tight in the first half, with not much between the two sides,” said the Devizes manager.

“We went into half time 1-0 up and I think we deserved it, just. Then we got an early goal in the second half.

“At 2-1, we stood firm and defended well all night so when we got the third one, that finished the game off.

“We have some winnable games now so we need to get a run together and put some points on the board. but I am happy with 10th.”

The result means that Walters’ side are now 10th in the league table with 24 points from the opening 17 fixtures.

Elsewhere, Malmesbury Victoria had to make do with a point at the week as they drew 2-2 with Cheddar.

Sam Parker gave the hosts the lead in the tenth minute, before Cheddar equalised on the half hour mark.

Malmesbury were back in the lead within two minutes when Josh Russell grabbed his first goal for the club.

Sadly for Kevin Bridgeman’s side, they were unable to hold onto the lead as they conceded late on as the game finished 2-2.

After a goalless first half, Chippenham Park were unable to prevent defeat against Radstock Town as they lost 3-1 Lewis Russell’s goal for Corsham Town was just a consolation as they were beaten 2-1 by Roman Glass St George.
