BRADFORD on Avon’s Olympic gold medallist Ed McKeever is bidding to become a part of shaping the future of the British Olympic Association.
The 33-year-old, who won gold in the K1 200m canoe sprint event at London 2012, is one of 18 Olympians standing for election to the BOA’s Athletes’ Commission.
Voting opened last week for the commission, which was created in 2010 with the aim of bringing the perspective and expertise of Olympic athletes to BOA initiatives and programmes.
In total, six positions could become available in December, with Heather Fell, Katherine Grainger and Christian Malcolm standing for re-election, while James Cracknell, Kate Richardson-Walsh and Leon Taylor will stand down.
Voting is open until Tuesday, November 8, and any athlete who has competed for Team GB in the last 12 years, or those athletes that are Team GB Gold Club members – future Olympians as nominated by their respective sports – are eligible to vote.
