DEFENDING Division One champions Luxol St Andrews remain three points off the pace at the summit, but with a game in hand over leaders Melksham Town A they know they can’t afford many slip-ups if they are to retain the title.

A 3-0 victory over Semington Magpies was a lot closer than many people would have expected, Elliott Carris-Smith putting Luxol ahead on 30 minutes.

Tom Rooney’s 45th-minute effort saw them go in at half-time 2-0 up.

Luxol’s third came on 60 minutes. Mark Reynolds opened up the Semington defence before setting up Ben Ryder to score the goal of the game.

Despite losing 6-0, bottom of the table Heytesbury put in a much-improved performance at home to near-neighbours Warminster Town Reserves.

Patrick Carrig headed Warminster in front on six minutes.

Brendan Hind, who had already seen two goalbound efforts brilliantly kept out by keeper Sam Spratt, doubled the score on 23 minutes.

Charlie Walton added the third in the 32 minutes and Lewis Graham’s goal five minutes before the break made it 4-0.

Heytesbury keeper Sam Spratt was again in superb form before goals on 67 and 70 minutes from Lewis Graham and Craig Sheppard took it to 6-0.

Leaders Melksham Town A picked up another three points thanks to what was a harder-than-expected 3-0 victory over a Westbury United Reserves side who paid the price for missing numerous gilt-edged chances.

Luke Turvey and Will Steed’s thunderous free kick put Dave Jenkins side two up after the opening 45 minutes and the points were safely wrapped up when Graham Griffiths added number three after the break.

After a sluggish start to life in Division One, Westbury Town look to have found their feet. A 1-0 victory over Stockton & Codford saw Bobbie Cunningham’s side extend their unbeaten run to five matches.

Drew Adams' second half-effort earned Westbury maximum points.

Freshford United booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Somerset Junior Cup after claiming the impressive scalp of Weston Super Mare & District League Division One leaders Draycott FC 5-3 in a thrilling contest.

Freshford took the lead with a brilliant individual effort from Dave Percival who, after beating three players, calmly tucked the ball away for 1-0.

Draycott got themselves back on level terms only for Theo Sing to pick out Nick Ross who headed Freshford back in front before half time.

Chris Birleson’s introduction from the bench was to prove pivotal. The player-manager extended Freshford lead to 3-1 before Draycott staged a great comeback to level the scores at three apiece.

A sublime strike from Theo Sing who controlled the ball and took two steps before unleashing a thunderbolt put Freshford back ahead at 4-3 and when Percival played in Birleson for his second of the contest the villagers had wrapped up another excellent win.
