SWINDON Town midfielder Ellis Iandolo says he wasn’t concerned about waiting for his first senior goal after he opened his account in the 3-2 defeat to Luton Town.

The 19-year-old was hauled off the bench at the expense of Anton Rodgers at the interval, with Swindon trailing 2-1 to the League Two side on Tuesday.

But in the 62nd minute, the youngster found himself in space just outside of the area before lashing a shot into the top-left corner to level the game.

Despite waiting over a year for his maiden goal, Iandolo knew it was only a matter of time until he got off the mark.

“I caught it well. I just found myself in a lot of space and I hit it, so it’s good to get a first goal for the club,” he said.

“The more you try when you are trying to score, the harder it is, so sometimes you just have to let things happen.

“I was always relaxed that it (the first goal) would come. You have to stay as relaxed as you can in football. Now one has gone in, hopefully there will be more to come from me.”

This week's Checkatrade Trophy exit will be doubly disappointing for Iandolo as the competition had provided him a regular source of games.

“I’ve had a lot of game time in this cup, so to be out of it means maybe less minutes but hopefully I can start to pick up a few more appearances in the league and better myself,” said the teenager.

“I was open-minded (about personal goals). I didn’t want to set my expectations too high because we have players who are coming in on loan. They’re going to play; players who are older than me and more experienced in the league.

“It’s about getting as much as I can and doing what I can when I play.”

Swindon will now look to make amends with a victory over Sheffield United on Saturday, with the youngster eager to visit Bramall Lane.

“It’s a massive game for us. Everyone looks forward to going to Sheffield United. It's a massive stadium,” said Iandolo.

“It’s one of those goosebump moments when you come out and you hear the music. Everyone is looking forward to it.”
