PHIL Hill believes that Swindon Wildcats are one ‘hottest teams’ in the English Premier League ahead tonight’s clash with Peterborough Phantoms at the Link Centre.

Following a tough period in November things have improved for Aaron Nell’s side as they claimed their third success of 2017 last weekend against Hull Pirates, before their four-match winning run was ended at Hill’s former club - Telford Tigers - on Sunday.

However, Hill refuses to read too much into that defeat as they aim to make the most of home advantage.

“We are performing at home, we are doing well on the road now and it seems like the guys have got an identity, everyone is working for each other and we’re going well,” said the former Telford Tiger.

“The Telford game is one result, it’s two points missed, but the key is, you go again, you can never lose two in a row and that’s what we have got to stick to.

“We are playing some of the best hockey in the league right now, we are probably one of the two hottest teams in the league, so we have just got to try to keep on track, keep building and the play-offs are obviously the goal.”

Hill joined Cats in December following financial difficulties at Telford. The 34-year-old’s arrival also helped soothe a lengthy injury list at Swindon and he is more than happy with how the move has turned out.

“I am enjoying it here. It’s a good group of guys and I love playing at home, it’s a great crowd and they pack it (the Link Centre) out,” he added.

“I am playing with some of the high-end guys in the league, they make plays that a lot of guys in this league can’t. It’s fun to play hockey again and we’re winning and that helps.

“Any time I have won championships, it’s always been the little things that make the difference that maybe the fans don’t see.

“It all comes with experience and there are guys who have won championships in this room and we are not far off.”
