BOLTON Wanderers boss Phil Parkinson was left ruing his side’s missed chances as they fell to a rare home defeat at the hands of Swindon Town.

After a first half that lacked much in terms of real goal threats, Bolton took control of proceedings early on in the second half as David Wheater scored an acrobatic effort in the 48th minute.

Bolton continued to test Swindon with Lawrence Vigouroux and the woodwork coming to the visitor’s aid on numerous occasions.

However, Swindon showed renewed fight and were back on level terms in the 65th minute through Been Gladwin’s thunderbolt strike from the edge of the box, having shifted the ball out of his feet to create the angle.

The game continued to ebb and flow at a frantic pace and both sides looked for the winner, which fell the way of Swindon in the 89th minute when Yaser Kasim popped up at the back post to side-foot the ball past Ben Alnwick.

Defeat for the hosts was their first at the Macron since the beginning of October, when Oxford United were 2-0 winners, and Parkinson knows his side should have at least left with a point.

"We'd started really well in the second half and got a goal ahead, then got in so many positions where we needed a bit of quality but we didn't pick the right pass or stick the chance away,” he said.

"In any game of football, you are only going to get 'x' amount of chances. We really should have gone on to win.

"Their goal was really the first effort they had put on target all game but even then we should have held on to a point. Maybe we chased it a bit too much."
