SWINDON Town forward Jordan Stewart felt his side deserved to come away with at least a point from their encounter with Peterborough United.

Posh skipper Chris Forrester’s strike moments into the second half was enough to settle the League One clash at the County Ground.

Stewart was thrown into the mix with 15 minutes left of the game as Town pushed for an equaliser and it almost came when the Northern Irishman linked up well with fellow substitute Jermaine Hylton down the left before whipping in a low ball that was cut out by Peterborough stopper Luke McGee with Hylton waiting to tap into an empty net.

However, with Town unable to record a shot on target in the 90 minutes, it wasn’t to be and Stewart believes they were thwarted by a well-disciplined Peterborough side.

“I thought it was a bit of a scrappy game and I think both sides maybe deserved a point,” he said.

“It wasn’t a classic but unfortunately they edged it.

“Towards the end of the game, we were coming into it a bit more and were maybe a bit vulnerable to the counter attack.

“We had to go and push for the goal and we were unlucky not to get it.

“They were very difficult (to break down). They always had four defenders and the holding midfielder just sitting in and they just looked for the counter attack and, to be fair, it worked well for them. Their game plan went well.”

Despite the result, Stewart, who returned from injury to play in Town’s development fixture with Bristol Rovers last Tuesday, was happy to get some vital first-team minutes under his belt.

Having been sidelined with a knee injury, the 21-year-old is hoping he has put a troublesome period behind him and is looking to work hard to gain that elusive first start this season.

“It’s always hard coming on as a sub when I haven’t played any game in three or four months,” he added.

“I’m just happy to be back out on the pitch and it is something to build on for myself.

“I think we were just waiting on me to get some minutes before being included, just to see how I held up but everything seems to have gone fine and I am feeling back to my best now.”
