SWINDON Town Supporters’ Trust chairman Steve Mytton has encouraged Robins fans to have a say in their club’s future, starting by attending the organisation’s annual general meeting next month alongside two very special guests.

Trust STFC’s AGM is due to take place on March 16 at The Goddard Arms in Old Town, and Town fans young, old, regular and lapsed are welcome to attend.

Mytton, who was elected to the in 2013 and has sought to reinvigorate the Trust during his tenure, is keen for supporters with something to say about County Ground current affairs to speak up.

“The AGM is all about discussing the way we as a Trust move forward, the initiatives we can develop to increase interest in our club and the steps we can take to safeguard our team’s future,” said Mytton.

“At present, we are a small but active group of volunteers, who put the hours in we can away from our jobs, but we don’t consider ourselves to be a closed shop. The more members the better.

“At the AGM, any fans who want to know more about the way the Trust operates, who is involved and what our plans are for the future will get the chance to find out.

“What’s more, hopefully the event will provide the melting pot for ideas from new members and supporters who want to join up and be a part of Trust STFC.”

In recent seasons, the Trust has organised a successful Family Fun Day at the County Ground, contributed to the loan signing of Harry Toffolo via the Red Army Fund, and promoted the club’s Pro Red ticket scheme, which offers discounted entry for local families. In addition they have paid for a full survey of the Stratton Bank with on eye on future redevelopment and ran their 5k to Coventry campaign last season, which helped deliver Town’s best away attendance for several years.

Mytton added: “Everything we do is about taking the club further forward and looking after its best interests.

“Our campaign to raise the funds to cover the cost of a Stratton Bank roof is often brought up when fans ask what we as an organisation really do.

“As a Trust, we seek to aim high and the notion of raising £500,000 for that project was exactly that. In the end, we did not get the support that we had hoped from supporters or local businesses and donors, but it’s a complex issue that needs further debate, and the AGM is a chance to do that.

“Hopefully, those who want to know more will be free to attend on March 16.”

Another good reason for supporters to turn up at the AGM is the presence of two Town legends.

Don Rogers and John Trollope, who famously won the League Cup with the Robins in 1969 after beating Arsenal at Wembley, will be taking part in a Q&A session from 6.30pm, prior to the AGM formally opening at 7.30pm.

Mytton said: ‘It’s a real honour to be hosting the event with Don and John, who need little introduction.

‘This is a great chance to reminisce with two of our greatest ever players just one day after the 48th anniversary of that Wembley victory, so I’d recommend arriving early as we have limited space and no idea of how many will turn up’.

The AGM agenda includes the chairman’s review of the past year, a full breakdown of the Trust accounts and an open Q&A session looking forward to what the group can achieve over the coming 12 months.

There will also be a vote to elect the Trust board and fans who feel they could have something to add are encouraged to email their intent to stand for election to info@truststfc.com by March 1.

The Trust STFC AGM takes place at The Goddard Arms, Old Town, Swindon from 6.30pm on Thursday, March 16.
