WESTLECOT ladies marched into the fifth round of the Mason Trophy with a 40-27 success over Oxford City and County.

The Old Town club, who will now face Thornbury in the next round on Friday, saw the away rink of Viv Barker, Sheila Kenny, Wendy Anderson and skip Janet Willis claim a 25-11 success.

However, the home rink of Val Coles, Isobel Jenner, Jenny Vowles and skip Rosemary Nichols were edged out 16-15.

Westlecot’s men’s fours of Kevin Embling, Chris Cheesley, Ian Jefferies and Neil Smith defeated Alan Dunkley’s Brackley 22-9 to book their place in the area final, where they will face Egham’s Steve Tuohy at Whiteknight Bowls Club in Reading on March 5.

The men’s triples of Embling, Jefferies and Smith also booked their place in their area final after beating Brackley’s Dunkley 15-11. They will now take on Whiteknights’ Rob Newman at Loddon Vale on Tuesday.

However, the over-50s triples of Embling, Jefferies and Smith went down 14-12 to Slade’s Mike Smith in their area final.

In the men’s pairs, Smith and Cheesley will face Whiteknights’ Andy Knapper at Loddon Vale on Friday, while the over-60s duo of Embling and Hedley Bowen, who has come in for Dave Snell, will meet Clive Graves’ pair this morning at Oxford City and County.

The Smith sisters, Lucy and Katy, lost their ladies’ pairs area final 20-16 against Banbury’s Carole Galletly.

Westlecot’s ladies’ triples of Jayne Croston, Anderson and Willis will meet Desborough’s Norah Holder at Whiteknights on Tuesday in their area final.

In the over-60s pairs, Anderson and Willis face Eileen Devonald-Batt (Desborough) at Whiteknights on March 11.

The men’s over-60s rink of Embling, Dave Matthews, John Thomas and Terry Walton defeated Foxhill’s Ray Rouse 23-20 to reach their area final, where they will face either West Berks or Egham.

In the family pairs, Barry and Tom Pittuck are due to face Graham and Craig Hatherall with a place in the area final up for grabs, while in the two-wood, Westlecot’s Mike Titcombe missed out on a place in his area final after losing 21-11 to Foxhill’s Paul Maynard.
