SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb is refusing to be downbeat after his side came away with a midweek point from Evesham United as he prepares to host Paulton Rovers on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead in the first minute before Josh Parsons’ effort levelled the game early in the second half.

Despite having the chances to go on and claim victory against their Division One South & West play-off rivals, Webb doesn’t think the draw at Evesham was a disaster for his team.

“We kept in the game in the first half and then scored a fantastic goal in the second through Josh,” said Webb.

“You would expect to win the game with the chances we had but it is still a good point for us.

“We would’ve loved three but it keeps everything alive for us. We are five points behind with six games to go.

“There will be lots of twists and turns in the remaining games. Everyone is trying to predict what games we are going to win and which ones we are going to lose.

“Evesham are a good side. If we can catch them, then great, but to go there and play the way we did was excellent.”

Marine are five points behind Evesham, who occupy the last play-off spot, and next up for Webb’s troops is a visit from Paulton Rovers, who are down 16th in the table.

“My next focus is on Paulton. They aren’t a bad side and are improving all the time,” added the Marine chief.

“If we weren’t to win the game, that would hurt me more than not scoring a winner at Evesham because we are at home.

“We have to make sure we win and keep the pressure on.

“We can’t look too far ahead because we are still five points behind and we need to close that gap before we even start thinking about the play-offs again.

“The players are enjoying their football. You can see that in the way they play and they are probably the most complete we have been all season.

“They know what they want to be and they know what they have got to do if they are going to get there.

“If you look at the quality of teams who are in there, we are doing tremendously well to be in with a shout.”

Supermarine will be boosted by the return of Joe Selman after he was rested for Wednesday’s clash as he picked up a hamstring injury last weekend.
