PEWSEY Vale turned up the power to defeat visiting Minety 43-18 and finish fourth in the Dorset & Wilts One North table.

Against the run of play, Minety opened the scoring as Andrew Hibbard picked up the ball 50 metres out and ran straight through the defence, offloading to wing Duncan Simpson, who touched down between the posts, full-back Garin Garland converting.

Pewsey hit back five minutes later when fly-half James Haynes burst through before slipping a pass to number eight Phil Vallis who scored, Haynes converting.

Minety regained the lead with two Garland penalties but the combination of Vallis and Haynes proved too much for the visiting defence and the fly-half touched down and converted for a one-point interval lead.

Four unanswered Pewsey tries in the first 12 minutes of the second half took Vale clear, replacement centre Sam Flippance scoring a fine solo try, converted by Haynes.

Three minutes later a goal line clearance was charged down and prop Guy Ellis was first to react to the loose ball to touch down before Haynes picked up a Minety clearance kick, ran it back, and from the resulting ruck flanker Olly Spence ran through for a try under the posts.

Flanker Chris Spence scored wide out on the right wing before being yellow-carded, after which Simpson scored for Minety Vallis sprinted through for his second try for Pewsey before a late penalty try added to Minety's tally.

Champions Corsham's campaign ended with a home walkover against Devizes 2nd.
