SWINDON Town’s latest signing Amine Linganzi is excited by the prospect of joining the ‘biggest club in League Two’.

Having played a part in Portsmouth’s title winning campaign last season, the 27-year-old was understandably disappointed when he got released by the south coast club this summer.

However, he did not feel down on himself and having rejected offers from League One, the former Congolese international was sold on the vision by David Flitcroft and has only one goal on his mind.

“This is the top club in League Two,” he told the Advertiser.

“It is better to be in a club who have the aim of getting to League One and, individually, that is my aim as well.

“I’m really happy to be here. The manager and the staff I think are perfect for me, as well as the players and I am really looking forward to the start of the season.

“Last season, I won the league and I played some games and the main thing is to always believe in yourself.

“When I left Portsmouth, I had some offers but the best offer was from Swindon.

“I had more offers in League Two and some interest in League One but I think the best thing was for me to come to Swindon because the manager really believed in me and that is the best thing for myself.

“I hope the team will all go forward together and hopefully win the league.”

Another big draw for Linganzi was the lure of regular first team football having struggled to secure that at any of the five clubs he has been at in England.

Having left Saint-Etienne to sign a three-and-a-half year deal with Blackburn Rovers, he only made two appearances at Ewood Park and since then, his most appearances have come in a two year spell with Gillingham, featuring 27 times, with injuries hampering his progress.

However, having made 19 appearances for Pompey last term, Linganzi, whose favourite role is as a box-to-box midfielder, has been promised a more prominent role in Swindon’s team this term.

“(Manager David Flitcroft) said to me that he wants me to play the 46 games,” he added.

“For me, because of my past, I’ve had a difficult career so I am really pleased and thankful to the manager and all the staff to believe in me.

“Those days (of injuries) are behind me.

“I have seen a specialist in France to make sure those things are right and now after two seasons, I am feeling much better.

“Now, heading into my third season, I can say that I am feeling relaxed with it.

“I will make sure that I will give 200 per cent for the staff and for the club.”
