HIGHWORTH Town kept up their good start to the Hellenic League Premier Division season with their second win on the bounce away to Burnham.

Manager Jeff Roberts will be encouraged by his team’s 6-2 triumph, particularly as the goals came from six individual scorers Ryan O’Hara, Ash Edenborough, Dan Drewett, Callum Parsons, Tom Cole and Jake Solcombe were all on target, much to the delight of Roberts.

“If you go away and score six goals, you’re going to be happy. The only problem was conceding twice,” said Roberts.

“For the first one, the marking was poor and the second one was caused by a lack of concentration between our keeper and the defender really.

“During the first 20 minutes, our interchange and movement was good, we opened them up and scored the goals we needed.

“At half-time, I wanted to keep a clean sheet. We went 3-0 up and it was a shame to concede to make it 3-2.

“All over the game they didn’t really cause us too many problems, it was our own mistakes that cost us.

“Their keeper pulled off some good saves but it could have been double figures by the end of the game.”

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Fairford Town fell to a demoralising defeat at home to Flackwell Heath.

Jody Bevan had watched his troops take the lead in the first half thanks to Lee Smith, only for them to trail 2-1 at the interval.

The second half saw the home performance go from bad to worse as they shipped another four goals before the final whistle meant they were 6-2 losers, Josh Morse got the other.

Despite the arrival of five new players, Royal Wootton Bassett were also unable to come away with all three points.

Ben Lodge, Ryan Rawlins, Kai Robinson, Sam Collier and Matt Bulman all played a part in the game as Rich Hunter’s troops were beaten 2-1 by Bracknell Town.

Bassett got their goal through debutant Lodge, who had put them 1-0 up, but second-half strikes from the visitors consigned Bassett to their first defeat of the campaign.

It was the opening day of Hellenic League Division One West this weekend with Shrivenham and New College both in action.

While both would have been optimistic about the season, neither side were able to claim their first points of the year.

Michael McNally was unable to steer his Shrivenham team to an opening-day win as they were beaten 2-0 away to Clanfield 85.

It was a similar story for New College, who were narrowly edged out by home side Letcombe, who ran out 1-0 winners.
