THE Wiltshire runners who made the trip across the Severn Bridge for the inaugural Summer Speedway 10k near Chepstow certainly made an impact.

Chippenham Harriers’ Will Trew scooped the men’s over 40s prize while the Calne Running Club duo of Denise Nott and Helen Gibbs came away with first and second prizes in the women’s over 40 age group.

Nott was particularly pleased with that result, not just for herself but also because she coaches and runs with Helen in Calne.

In the men’s race Nott’s husband Simon took on a strong field – who had all been invited to the race – and declared himself satisfied with his sixth place.

“I can't say I 'enjoyed' the wind tunnel that was the Bristol Channel on Sunday, but happy enough with this morning’s efforts on reflection,” said Nott.
