CHIPPENHAM siblings James and Megan Wright have been crowned South West Aquathlon champions.

The pair, who are both students at Hardenhuish School, struck gold at the regional championships at the Mount Batten centre in Plymouth.

The event comprised a 750m sea swim followed by 5km run for James and 4km for Megan.

James was lying fifth after the swim with Megan not far behind. James, who is a member of Chippenham Harriers, caught up and overtook those ahead of him to dominate the run, finishing first in a time of 27mins 57secs.

Megan also impressed in the run, finishing strongly to claim the first Youth Girl award in 27mins 20secs.

Meanwhile, Hilperton’s Rory Howorth was in action for his club Team Bath AC in the second Avon League match at Stoke Gifford.

Howorth won the U17 400m in 52.1secs, with Femi Akimbobola second in 52.9 and also won the high jump with 1.85m. Club-mate Jonathan Evans was second with a PB of 1.63m.

Enya Maylor won the U17 800m in 2.24.4 and was runner-up in the 200m in 27.8 and the 300m hurdles in 47.6.

The Team Bath trio of Ethan Hall, Femi Akimbobola and Luka Williams enjoyed a clean sweep in the U17 men’s 100m in times of 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3 respectively.

Another highlight was the U17 men’s 1,500m, with Justin Davies and Alex Parsons finishing ahead of the field in 4.18.5 and 4.19.0.

Harry Meredith and Ellery Cole dominated the U17 men’s 400m hurdles in 58.5 and 59.7secs respectively, and Joel Mattacks won the senior men’s 400m hurdles in 66.3.

Other senior men winners were Imam Qazi and Marcin Olech, while the U15 boys winners included Fraser Middleton, Filip Oczko and Andrew Slater.

Tyla Werrett won the U13 girls 75m in 10.0 and the 150m in 19.1, and was third in the long jump (4.45m).

For the U15 girls, Sophie Harrison won the shot (8.93m) and Tabitha Gallen won the U17 100m and 200m in 13.2 and 27.4 respectively.

Senior women winners were Sarah Long, Jenna Blundell, Caitlin Wosika and Robyn Ellison.
