HARD but tedious work on the training ground paid dividends for Mark Collier at the weekend as Chippenham Town recorded a 4-1 win at home to Concord Rangers in National League South.

Despite falling a goal behind after Alex Wall found a way past Will Henry midway through the opening half, Chippenham fought back to put four goals past Concord in the concluding 45 minutes.

Curtis McDonald bagged a brace, while Dean Evans and Nat Jarvis were also on target for Collier’s men.

The character-filled performance pleased Collier, who admits a to-the-point half-time team talk worked a treat as the Bluebirds responded to calls for more proactive play.

“We were a bit indifferent in the first half, which was a bit worrying,” said Collier.

“We conceded a sloppy goal, people simply didn’t do their jobs. We reminded the players at half-time that we needed to be a bit more proactive and less reactive.

“Once we managed to work out how to do that, we were on the front foot and dominated.

“We could’ve scored more. It was a pleasing second half where we showed a lot of character.

“The lads responded at half-time to what we asked of them, we’re pleased about that.

“The response and result were both good for us, and we scored some decent goals from set-pieces that we have worked on.

“It was a pleasing performance.”
