WILTSHIRE'S U16 Elite squad moved into into second place in the Channel League after beating Somerset 8-7.

The morning foursomes saw Wiltshire take a 3-2 advantage but after seven holes of the singles, Wiltshire were down in every match except one.

However, Tom Scullion and Dom Samra bought in the first wins, whilst Rory Cameron and Ben Mazzotta added half points before Dom Piggott and Ben Wakeley secured the required points as the singles matches were shared 5-5.

Wiltshire now play Glamorgan on Sunday at Bargoed Golf Club in Wales, the current league leaders, to decide the destination of the title.

Home player Max Wrixon won the Tidworth Junior Open to clinch the Gus Taylor Trophy, the Wiltshire U18 managing a gross score of 71.

The best nett boys scorer was Tom Scullion, from Upavon, who shot an impressive nett 67 playing off a four handicap.

Broome Manor's Olivia Bannon had the best girls gross score with 78, while Polly McGrance's nett 66 clinched her that prize.

All four won places for the Daily Telegraph Qualifier.

The chipping competition was won by Bradley Fitz-Henry-Roe, from High Post, the putting competition by Brad Smith, from North Wilts and nearest the pin were Freddie Titcombe and Callum Fitzgerald.
